Bankole Olowookere, the head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 women’s squad, Flamingos, believes his side is prepared to make an impression in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
To wrap off their last round of tournament preparations, the Flamingos arrived in Casablanca on Wednesday. The team has been playing well lately, winning all 10 of the friendly games that were played in Abuja, scoring 44 goals, and giving up zero goals.
Olowookere commended his team’s mindset and perseverance in an interview with thenff.com. He remarked, “This group has demonstrated great attitude and unity.” “I think they can accomplish something unique in Morocco, and they know what it means to represent Nigeria.”
Nigeria, France, Canada, and Samoa have all been assigned to Group D. On Sunday, October 19, the Flamingos will kick off their campaign against Canada in what could be a challenging but thrilling first game.
Randy Waldrum, the former head coach of the Super Falcons, has been inducted into the United Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame as one of the Class of 2026 honorees.
At the 86th United Soccer Coaches Convention, which will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from January 12–17, 2026, the 69-year-old American will be honored alongside three other coaches.
Waldrum coached the Nigerian women’s team to a fourth-place finish at the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and to the Round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Waldrum managed the Super Falcons from 2020 to 2024.
He had a lengthy and fruitful coaching career in college and professional football in the United States before taking over as Nigeria’s coach. He also coached the women’s national team of Trinidad and Tobago.
