Nigeria records highest daily Covid cases in four months

THE Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, last night, announced 317 new cases of coronavirus and one death.

This represents the highest number of daily cases recorded in over four months, taking the total tally to 170,623 and 2,131 casualties.

The number of daily infections recorded in the country has continued to surge significantly in July after a case of the highly dangerous delta variant was detected in the country.

According to data from the NCDC, a total of 2,905 cases have been registered so far in July, a significant increase compared to 1,100 and 1,394 recorded in June and May 2021, respectively.

The upswing has been most felt by Lagos which again topped the list of new cases with 172 cases followed by Akwa Ibom (62), Oyo (33) and Rivers (32).

Others are Ekiti (5), FCT (5), Ogun (3), Sokoto (2) as well as Bayelsa, Gombe and Kano with one apiece.
