If President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not get rid of the fuel subsidy, according to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Nigeria will eventually suffer.

According to Shettima, the removal of the fuel subsidy would be in the interests of the majority as opposed to the upper class, who would object because they have always benefited from it.

This was stated by the vice president on Tuesday while addressing the media in Aso Villa, Abuja, where he had just assumed the position of number two citizen.

Recall that shortly after becoming the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Tinubu declared that the fuel subsidy would be eliminated.

Shettima responded to the news on Tuesday by stating that the president had already spoken out on the fuel subsidy issue the day before. In actuality, either we eliminate the fuel subsidy or the Nigerian nation is eliminated by the fuel subsidy.

“You and I benefit 90% from the oil subsidy, so in 2022 we spent $ 10 billion subsidising the ostentatious lifestyle of the upper class of society. Very little is gained by Nigeria’s 40% poorest citizens.

And we are aware of what happens when a masquerade is revealed. Those who stand to gain financially from the oil subsidy scam will fight us tooth and nail. But if you have the will, you can achieve your goals. Rest assured that our president has a strong sense of conviction and will.

“When the time is right, you’ll recognise his admirable goals for the country. The topic of fuel subsidies will be brought up directly. It’s best if we act as soon as possible.
