Nigerian Air Force Denies Bombing Allegation in Mbosi, Anambra Explosion
The Nigerian Air Force has firmly denied involvement in a tragic explosion in Mbosi community, located in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, which allegedly resulted in the deaths of three children and left one person severely injured.
Reports from local residents suggested that a military helicopter fired a cannon that exploded within a residential compound in Agwunnaga Mbosi, leading to widespread speculation about military involvement.
However, in an official statement, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, clarified that no such operation was carried out by the military in the area. “The Nigerian Air Force did not conduct any operation in Mbosi on the said date,” he stated.
Backing the Air Force’s denial, Azuka Innocent Okolie, the President General of the Mbosi community, also dismissed claims of a military attack. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he expressed sorrow over the tragic loss and emphasized that the military operates under strict command protocols that would not permit unauthorized actions.
Okolie pointed fingers at the Eastern Security Network (ESN), alleging that the group was behind the explosion. “Unfortunately, the truth is that the ESN planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the community. This is not the first time—they have carried out similar attacks in places like Isseke,” he claimed.
He urged residents of Anambra State to stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities by reporting any suspicious activities. “Let us work together to protect our community and prevent further harm,” he added.
This incident has reignited concerns over rising insecurity in southeastern Nigeria, particularly regarding the operations of non-state actors and the safety of rural communities.
