A Nigerian has been arrested in South Africa for allegedly stabbing two policemen in Rosedale near Upington.
Though his identity is yet to be known, reports say he will be charged to court soon.
The stabling, which occurred on Tuesday, was said to have disrupted peace and order in the area before police intervention.
National President of Nigerian Citizens in South Africa (NICASA), Benjamin Okoli, has debunked rumours of an ultimatum issued to Nigerians and other foreigners in the affected areas.
Mr Okoli said a policeman was stabbed to death while the other was wounded and taken to a hospital where he later died as a result of the injuries sustained.
“We understand that the alleged killer and the stabbed police victim are known to each other,” he said.
Okoli sympathised with the family of the victims and called on Nigerians in the country to stay safe and be law-abiding.
Police are investigating the incident which has raised tensions and fear for the lives of Nigerians in South Africa.
