Due to allegations of bullying at Federal Unity College (FUC) in Enugu State, 13 students have been suspended by the federal government for a period of six weeks.

Folashade Boriowo, the Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, said this in an Abuja statement on Wednesday.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa ordered the suspension of the kids based on a viral video showing certain students of the school indulging in acts of bullying.

Alausa reiterated the ministry’s steadfast dedication to preserving a secure and comfortable learning environment in all of the nation’s federal schools.

He claims that the bullying event at the FUC in Enugu was the subject of a recent report that the Federal Ministry of Education received. This study expressed serious issues regarding discipline and safety in the school setting.

According to the ministry’s findings, on November 7, a number of students gang-assailed an SS1 student, who was a day student.

It was discovered that an unsettling video was making the rounds on social media.

The Federal Ministry of Education responded by forming a disciplinary commission to look into the situation.

“All 13 students involved have been placed on a six-week suspension pending the investigative committee’s report based on the findings,” he stated.

In order to carry out a comprehensive investigation, including any ties to outside organizations, the minister also instructed the School Based Management Committee (SBMC) to work with security services.

He also stated that urgent steps had been taken to improve security at the College by examining current safety procedures and enlisting law enforcement officers.
