Ismail Ahmed, a former National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed the possibility that Nigerians frustrated with the country’s situation would publicly stone President Bola Tinubu, APC leaders, and government officials.
He said that Nigerians would listen to the leaders and have faith in the process, therefore there is still hope.
Ahmed reportedly made the comment on Tuesday when discussing the Tinubu administration’s performance during its first two years in power in an interview with Channels Television.
To avoid being stoned, the party stalwart said that President Tinubu and the APC have prevented Nigeria from becoming bankrupt when the anchor asked him to explain what the APC-led government has done for Nigerians over the last two years.
He noted that although some citizens’ aspirations have not been fulfilled, the current administration has not destroyed the hope and hopes of Nigerians, and that the government still has two more years to fulfill its commitments.
Ahmed defended the Tinubu administration’s higher borrowings by pointing out that the money isn’t being misappropriated or embezzled but is instead going toward the nation’s infrastructure advancements, as evidenced by the completion of numerous significant projects.
He said the APC-led Tinubu government has done well in its first two years in power, despite criticism from some quarters regarding problems like economic hardship, insecurity, and the country’s growing hunger, which they blamed on the president’s misguided policies.

“I believe that Nigerians will listen to us and give us the benefit of the doubt. Not yet, though, is it a crushed hope.
We prevented our nation from becoming bankrupt. Everybody must operate on debt, whether they be corporations, businesses, or most importantly, a nation. One thing is that debt may be sustainable; it can be used to finance infrastructure improvements, enablement frameworks, or the ability to attract new enterprises to create jobs.
Borrowing to spend, paying salaries, eating it, having corruption eat it away, and spending it on endlessly pointless things is another else entirely. However, as you are well aware, Buhari initiated the practice of borrowing money to invest in our infrastructure. Numerous infrastructure projects that appeared to be unfinished were completed by us. We are doing well everywhere under this administration, so I don’t think we’re doing too terribly.
But in order for people to have a better grasp of what is happening in the nation, he emphasized the importance of keeping them better informed on government policies, activities, and programs.
“However, I am aware of perception.” The APC leader went on, “Let me be very clear that I understand the bottom line of people. A lot of people are not happy, which is why I said we need to do more than just sit in rooms and do endorsements that are absolutely unnecessary and are not required.”
