Nigeria’s Defence, Interior Ministers, Top Security Chiefs to Lead International Security Conference in Abuja

Abuja will host a high-level international security and diplomacy event as key government officials and security experts prepare to attend the DICAN Diplomatic and Security International Conference 2025, scheduled for July 23 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Among the notable figures confirmed for the event are Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa. The conference will be headlined by Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the event’s Grand Patron, who will deliver the keynote address.

With the theme, “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation,” the event will explore the role of diplomacy, intelligence, and the media in strengthening national and global stability.

Organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Nigeria (DICAN), the conference will highlight President Tinubu’s foreign policy agenda centered on Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography—a vision aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s global standing and tackling modern threats.

Over 75 diplomats, security and intelligence heads, academics, media leaders, and students are expected to participate. A key panel session will be chaired by the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, and will include prominent voices such as the National Security Adviser, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Professor Sheriff Ghali, and international journalist Alhassan Bala.

The event is designed to foster collaboration and generate actionable strategies to address growing security tensions both locally and globally—from Africa to Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The gathering will also welcome current and former Nigerian leaders, governors, lawmakers, and leaders from research and policy institutions, positioning Nigeria as a proactive player in global peacebuilding and diplomatic engagement.
