The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence, Osun State Command, on Monday, said it had begun an investigation to apprehend the killers of a night guard working at a shopping complex located along Station Road, Ikirun, Osun State.

The actual period when the night guard, simply identified as Ibariba, was killed could not be immediately determined.

But sources in Station Road, Ikirun, where the shopping complex where the deceased used to work is located, said he was found dead in the morning on Monday.

None of the residents approached was willing to comment on the record for fear of being linked to the crime.

However, a shop owner near the scene of the crime, who craved anonymity, during an interview with PUNCH Metro said, “We found the body in the pool of blood when we got here this morning.

“I don’t know the name of the night guard. All we were told was that he was an Ibariba man. Going by how the corpse looked like when we got here, he must have been slaughtered. We immediately alerted the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence. They both sent officers here.”

When contacted for confirmation, the spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun Command, Kehinde Adeleke, said operatives had visited the scene of the crime.

“We had a report that today, Monday, a middle-aged man simply known as Ibariba was slaughtered by unknown assailants in the early hours, while on duty as a night guard at Station Road Area, Ikirun.

“The man was working as a security guard in a shopping complex located in Station Road when the ugly incident occurred.

“Remains of the deceased had been evacuated and deposited in a morgue by the men from Ikinrun Police Divisional Headquarters.

“Meanwhile, an investigation had commenced by the officers of the corps in the division to unravel the cause of the death and apprehend the perpetrators,” Adeleke said.
