Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a well-known leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that he is confident that the growing cooperation between the ADC and the Obidient Movement will enable the APC to lose the 2027 general elections.
The statements were delivered by Odigie-Oyegun on Monday in Benin City, Edo State, at a formal greeting for Obidient Movement members who had defected in large numbers to the ADC.
The defection comes after Mr. Peter Obi, a previous presidential candidate of the Labour Party, recently joined the ADC.
Speaking to the crowd, Odigie-Oyegun stated that the Obidient Movement’s choice to join the ADC is indicative of Nigerians’ increasing determination to seek political reform and national revitalization, particularly among young people.
“The caliber and commitment of new members joining our party reinforces my conviction that a new Nigeria is achievable,” he declared.
He continued, recalling recent events: “A few days ago, I witnessed the entry of a prominent figure, Dele Momodu, into the party.” I observe a sizable number of young people nowadays who are sincerely dedicated to nation-building. Having met so many Obidient Movement members, I am convinced that young people are prepared to take significant political action.
He explained that the mass defection was the result of the Obidient Movement’s planned and intentional decision to take an active part in the fight for social and political change.
“I am happy that you have decided to join the ADC and take up this fight. Odigie-Oyegun stated, “I have been sure that we are on the correct route since the beginning of this alliance.
Additionally, he contended that residents’ growing discontent with Edo State and national government need to spur them to band together for collective political action.
“We have a clear mission: we need to save this country. He continued, “We can create a new Nigeria through the ADC.”
