The Community Development Committee in the Arepo area of Ogun State has urged residents to remain vigilant and prioritise security.
The call came after the abduction of the wife of a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, from her residence in the area.
It was gathered that Odumosu was abducted in the early hours of Friday by heavily armed men.
The kidnappers were said to have stormed Odumosu’s home, shooting sporadically.
In a circular obtained by Saturday TheNigerian, the Arepo CDC urged residents to remain vigilant to prevent further security breaches.
It read, “We write to inform you of a kidnapping incident that occurred in Voera Estate yesterday night. Authorities, including police from Wawa, Ibafo, and Mowe, as well as soldiers, have been working to rescue the kidnapped woman since the incident happened.
“In light of this, we urge all CDAs in Arepo to be vigilant and strengthen security measures in their respective estates. Please position your security personnel strategically to prevent any potential security breaches.”
Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, said the command reacted swiftly to the abduction by deploying operatives to secure her release.
Odutola said, “Information was received regarding the kidnapping of Mrs. Odumosu, a female resident of Aminu Street, Arepo, Ogun State.
“Reports indicate that she was about to enter her home when four masked men attacked her, dragged her from her LEXUS Jeep, and took her through swampy areas to an unknown location.
“The Divisional Police Officer has led a team of Police officers to the scene, where they are currently searching the swampy bush area.
“The Divisional Police Officer has also contacted Baale Warewa and Baale Maaba, to deploy local security forces to the riverine area.”
Odutola concluded, “The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has been briefed, and all covert operations have been deployed to assist with digital intelligence to ensure she is rescued unhurt.”
