Okpebholo Criticizes Obaseki Over Commissioning Of Unfinished Projects

Monday Okpebholo, the governor of Edo State, has criticized Godwin Obaseki’s immediate prior administration for commissioning unfinished projects, calling the action a “disservice to Edo people and an attempt to mask inefficiency.”

Speaking at an on-site inspection of the Iyaro Education Hub Complex and Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Okpebholo expressed surprise at the amount of work left undone in buildings that had been officially proclaimed finished.

“I do not know why the previous administration commissioned this hospital when work was still ongoing,” Okpebholo said in a statement issued through his chief press secretary, Fred Itua.

It is improper to use such gestures to deceive the public. It is our responsibility to complete the tasks at hand and guarantee that the Edo people receive the most out of every naira spent.

Cyril Oshiomhole, the Commissioner for Health, who led the governor’s tour, revealed that the Stella Obasanjo Hospital was only 60% finished and that many of the hospital beds were recycled and outdated.

“We have toured the facility with His Excellency, and it is evident that the hospital is far from being finished,” Dr. Oshiomhole stated.

However, the governor has ordered that all necessary work be expedited in order to complete it as soon as possible.

Residents were given Okpebholo’s word that the hospital would be finished and operational by Christmas. Although a great deal of work has been completed, much more remains.

The theater and the administration building are still unfinished. But we’ll make sure this facility is operational and providing care for Edo residents between now and Christmas,” he stated.

Similar disappointment was voiced by the governor at the Iyaro Education Hub, who claimed that the facility had been put into service without any equipment, power, or operational capability.

According to Okpebholo, “This building was hastily put into service without any operational capacity, power, or equipment.”

“It’s unfortunate because there wasn’t much to commission. Our current priorities are to completely operationalize this facility, reestablish its mission, and revitalize the Ministry of Education.

The complex, which houses the Ministry of Education, SUBEB, Library Board, Auditorium, staff restaurants, and other administrative units, was intended to centralize all educational operations in the state, according to George Bou Maroon, the contractor working on the project.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his administration is dedicated to accountability, transparency, and measurable achievements by promising to mobilize contractors in a matter of weeks to finish the Iyaro complex.

We are not here to meddle in Edo people’s political affairs,” he continued.

“Rebuilding, restoring, and making sure every project benefits the people are our goals. This administration will provide the Edo people with the transparency and tangible advancement they deserve.
