The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday said it had arrested a man identified as Adegoke for allegedly killing two men found in his farm at Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state last week.
Adegoke was said to have claimed that the deceased and some others from the neighbouring community had been stealing produce from his farm. The suspected thieves were said to have also stolen his motorcycle parked on the farm.
A source who spoke with TheNigerian Metro on Sunday on anonymity revealed that Adegoke was said to have met some people again on the farm and allegedly engaged the intruders in a fight, killing two and injuring others.
The source said, “Some suspected thieves had been stealing Adegoke’s farm produce. Before now, his cocoa, kolanuts, and plantains had been missing from his farm often. The thieves had also stolen his motorcycle on the same farm.
“But he caught some people on the farm again and beat them to a stupor, and in the process, two died and others were injured.”
In her reaction, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest of the suspect and said an investigation into the matter had commenced
“Investigation into the incident is ongoing,” the PPRO stated.
