At least one person lost his life, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries in two separate road accidents on Tuesday.
The incidents occurred along the Otedola Bridge area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Ijebu Imusin along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
TheNigerian Metro learnt from an incident report by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, signed by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, that the accident at the Otedola Bridge happened in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the accident, involving four articulated trucks laden with containers, was caused by reckless driving, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.
He explained, “On arrival at the scene of the secondary incident nearby, the agency’s Response Team discovered that a multiple-truck accident involving four articulated trucks laden with containers had occurred.
“Investigations conducted by the team revealed that the incident occurred due to reckless driving, which resulted in the accident trucks getting stuck to each other due to the force of impact on collision.
“Unfortunately, one adult male extricated from beneath the first accident truck lost his life to the incident. Three adult males sustained various degrees of injuries. The two seriously affected victims were taken to the Accident and Emergency Centre after receiving ‘on-the-spot’ medical attention at the incident scene.”
In another incident, the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, reported that a lone accident involving a Sienna vehicle occurred at Ijebu Imusin, before Imeri Junction, along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
He stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed, which led to a loss of control, resulting in injuries to three females out of six occupants of the vehicle.
“A lone RTA involving a Sienna white colour with registration number RBC 751 XU occurred at Ijebu Imusin, before Imeri Junction, along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
“Six occupants were involved, including four females and two males. Three females sustained injuries, and no death was recorded.
“According to an eyewitness, the accident was caused by excessive speed and loss of control.”
He concluded that “the three injured female victims have been taken to Ronal Hospital, Ijebu Ode, by TRACE operatives.”
