A lady, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, has sustained first-degree burns after a chemical exploded in Lagos following prolonged exposure to heat radiation.
This was confirmed in a statement by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, on Friday.
According to Adeseye, the incident occurred at about 7 pm along the old Abeokuta Motor Road, Lagos.
She said the chemical was stored in various sizes of kegs and was kept in an open space.
She said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has rescued a female adult from a chemical-induced fire at 291, Old Abeokuta Motor Road, opposite Vetland Secondary School, Agege, Lagos.
“The report of the incident which was made at 18:38 hours on Friday has Agege Fire and rescue crew of the agency brought the situation under control after dousing the fire from the explosion of sets of varying kegs sizes containing unknown chemical stored in open fenced-gated land.”
Meanwhile, the injured lady was said to be undergoing treatment while an investigation into the type of chemical that exploded and its ownership has commenced.
“While an investigation into the ownership and type of chemical is ongoing, it was discovered that heat radiation is attributed to the explosion of the chemical which was kept unprotected from sunlight.
“The rescued lady is however responding to treatment from sustained first-degree burns,” Adeseye said.
