Opposition Forces Behind Moves to Unseat APC National Chairman Yilwadta

The All Progressives Congress League of Professionals (ALP) has dismissed the ultimatum issued by the All Progressives Congress Youth Solidarity Network (APC-YSN) demanding the resignation of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

In a statement released over the weekend by its National Coordinator, Comrade Marlin Daniel, the ALP described the threat as a desperate move by politicians allegedly sponsored by the opposition to destabilize the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC-YSN, a youth group claiming affiliation with the party, had accused Professor Yilwatda of failing the leadership test and presiding over a party that was gradually losing popularity across the country. The group further threatened to embark on a nationwide protest should their demand for his resignation not be met.

However, the ALP dismissed the group’s claims, describing its members as “sponsored goons” and insisting that the APC-YSN was not a recognized body within the APC structure.

“It is important to state categorically that APC-YSN is not a recognized youth group within the APC family. They are a faction without credibility and cannot issue threats or ultimatums against the national chairman of our great party. They are sponsored elements of desperate opposition figures seeking to sow discord and polarize the APC,” Daniel stated.

He argued that the APC under Yilwatda’s leadership had witnessed tremendous growth, including mass defections of governors, senators, and prominent opposition members, which he said reflected the party’s rising popularity rather than decline.

“Anyone suggesting that Prof. Nentawe’s leadership has weakened the APC and made President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid difficult is out of touch with reality. The influx of political heavyweights into our party is evidence of strength, not weakness,” he added.

Daniel also pointed out the contradiction in APC-YSN’s claims of disunity within the party while praising the National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Bashiru, for his effectiveness, saying both leaders were working in harmony to strengthen the APC.

He alleged that intelligence available to the ALP indicated that the APC-YSN was being sponsored by an opposition governor from the North Central region to discredit Yilwatda and destabilize the ruling party.

The ALP urged party members and Nigerians to disregard what it described as “the antics of sponsored elements masquerading as APC members” and to continue supporting the national chairman and President Tinubu in their efforts to build a united and prosperous Nigeria.
