Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has tested positive for COVID-19, Napoli have announced.
The 21-year-old was found to have the virus after taking the test upon his return to Italy on Thursday, the club stated.
“SS Napoli reports that the footballer Victor Osimhen tested positive for the molecular nasopharyngeal swab carried out yesterday afternoon on his return from abroad,” the club tweeted on Friday.
“The footballer is asymptomatic and has not met the team group.”
According to public health guidelines concerning coronavirus, Osimhen will go into self-isolation for a few days and must be tested again. If he returns a negative test, he can then join his colleagues in training.
The Nigeria international has been out of action since November when he dislocated his shoulder while playing for the Super Eagles against the Leone Stars in Benin City.
Osimhen, who cost Napoli an African record transfer fee of €80m from Lille in the summer, has missed the Serie A club’s last 10 matches in all competitions due to his injury.
He has scored two goals and provided one assist in eight appearances for the club.
