At Complete Child Development College in Aule, Akure, Ondo State, a troubling event occurred involving suspected thugs who allegedly attacked the Vice Principal, Rotifa. This assault followed Rotifa’s intervention to stop their son from cheating during the ongoing West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams.
A preliminary report from the Ondo State Ministry of Education states that the incident started on May 26 when Rotifa found out that a student in Senior Secondary (SS) 3 had an Android phone during the WAEC exam, which was against school regulations. To stop the student from using it to cheat, Rotifa quickly grabbed the phone.
The report also disclosed that the day after the incident, the student’s mother went to the school to confront the school management about it.
Following a fiery dispute, the school’s owner ordered that the phone be given back to the mother, and this was carried out.
However, the situation worsened when the student’s brother, who had graduated from the school, came to the school and threatened the Vice Principal. He is reported to have harassed Rotifa while assuring him that he would “deal with him.”

After school hours, the Vice Principal was notified that the student’s brother and others were observed hanging around the school grounds.
Rotifa, following the school proprietor’s advice, accompanied two officers to the police station to lodge a complaint. On the way back from the station, though, the group of thugs set upon the police van, bringing it to a stop and removing Rotifa by force. They went on to assault him, which resulted in injuries.
The Vice Principal was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment and has now been discharged. The school principal, however, stated that Rotifa has avoided going home out of fear that the thugs may pursue him again.
Under the leadership of the Director of Schools, the Ondo State Ministry of Education has initiated an inquiry into the attack. The report indicated that additional attempts to capture the offenders are in progress.
