Patriotism Over Party Loyalty: A Clarion Call to Benue South Legislators to Rise with the People’s Mandate
Patriotism rather than loyalty, a clarion call on the Benue South Legislators to prove their prowesses with the mandates of the people.
If you are a Legislator in Benue South, whether at the State Assembly or National Assembly, our people needs you to add your voice, and legislative prowess into this struggle!
I believe that the step to political emancipation, is closer than we thoughtand anticipated!
Due to the various subtle agitations and political awakenings, the current administration of President Tinubu would execute the yearnings of Nigerians before 2027 of his probable exit!
The essence of your legislative offices, is not so that you serve your political party alone, but for services to fatherland and to the larger Electorates whose mandate you have been entrusted with!
You would agree with me that the larger population in the country, who are the masses, Citizens, Indigents and Electorates, are not members of any political party. Nonetheless , they cast their votes for those who can justify their mandates to represent them and executes their manifestos within the arms of Government.
For over 25 years of this current 4th democratic dispensation, the Benue South people are yet to produce the state Governor in Benue, and by history of 49 years, we also haven’t! This is one of the ardent fairness that we want you all to talk about, and of the reasons we also submitted several petitions for the rotation of Governorship seat across States senatorial districts and if not, secceed to our own State!
Now that we have Lawmakers who are shying away from this struggle, we want them to know that even the majority tribes that have been successive Governors of the State, are still asking for a state to be created for them out of the current Benue.
So, those of you who always think that everything is impossible, just know that at times, you need to play along in the direction of any Policy, or Order and trends at the National Assembly, which is the Apex and pinnacle of Lawmaking, Representation and Oversights for the entire Nation! For you may not predict when your freedom would come.
So, if you observe how other Lawmakers from the SouthWest, South-South, SouthEast, North West, NorthEast, and parts of North-Central or Middle Belt, are advocating for this Constitutional Review and reforms, then, Benue, and particularly, Benue South with the longest history of wanton political scrutiny, underdog, political servitude, power inequalities, and even administrative biases, should not allow their Lawmakers to hide under party politics to not give inputs into this Compass (Constitution) that would change the course of history and set our democracy on the path of firm trajectories, fairness, accountability, justice, development, emancipation and egalitarianism.
For us in Benue South, one of our Sons, the Enone’s Congressman, Dr. Philip Agbese is an integral part of the committee overseeing all memos, petitions, and opinions for the review of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended but not reformed); he has given us great public privileges and opinions, to have participated by submitting several petitions to the public hearing for North Central States, ongoing at Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.
Agbese, has proven beyound doubt that he is there to serve the people, unlike those who only serve their parties and families at the expenses of the people, a narrative we are pushing to quash in our polity.
Whether we believe it or not, there are agitations all over the country today because the current Nigerian Constitution doesn’t favour nor allow for democratic practices from the very institutions that are supposed to uphold true democratic trajectories; of course, no Nation progresses if the very Compass that ought to navigate her to enviable heights, is faulty! This is the reason for the review and reforms.
It’s on these premises that we want all our Lawmakers to be proactively involved to make our goals come to fruition.
