Peter Obi Condemns Kwara Bandit Killings: “We Cannot Continue to Normalize Tragedy”

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has denounced the increasing violence in certain areas of Kwara State and urged the government to act immediately for the sake of national security.
Obi lamented the terrible deaths in a recent bandit attack in the Oke-Ode region of Kwara State in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to reports, Obi’s remarks came amid a devastating attack that killed a number of locals and vigilante members in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, on Sunday.

He referred to the attacks as senseless acts of violence and urged the government and security services to take immediate action to save residents’ lives.

Peter Obi also prayed for God’s strength during trying times and expressed his condolences to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the people of Kwara State, and everyone impacted by the incident.

I was saddened to learn of the terrible murders in Oke-Ode, Kwara State, where vigilantes and the Baale of Ogbayo were among the innocent people whose lives were taken in yet another senseless act of violence by armed bandits who are terrorizing our country.

Once more, the loss of innocent life plunges our country into sadness. These frequent assaults demonstrate how urgently a national security emergency is needed. In their own homes, no Nigerian should have to live in dread. We must stop normalizing tragedy.

“The governor and the people of Kwara State are in my thoughts and prayers. You are not alone, I tell you. And please offer my sincerest condolences to the families who are mourning. On his 𝕏 account, Obi wrote, “May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may you find strength and comfort in this difficult time.”
