The Ondo State Police Command has disclosed that a total of 19 persons have been arrested in connection with the cult clash which occurred on Monday, in Owo town, Owo Local Government Area of the state.

No fewer than four persons were killed during the clash which reportedly ensued between two rival cult groups in the community. To this end, the state government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on the community as part of the efforts to douse the tension.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Wilfred Afolabi, who visited the community on Tuesday disclosed that 19 people had been apprehended on the incident.

He said, “We are in Owo this (Tuesday) morning to monitor the level of compliance with the curfew imposed on the town by the state government. So far, so good as normalcy has returned to the town and there is calm and peace across the town.

“So far, we have 19 suspects in our custody and we have only four people confirmed death in our record and for the lovers of peace, we can assure them that there will be a conducive environment for them.

“But for those who hate peace, they will not find it easy with us because whenever they go to, we will follow them and the laws of the land will catch them.”

The new CP vowed to apprehend the perpetrators of the dastardly act and assured the residents of adequate safety of their lives and property.

“Everyone involved in the act will be arrested because everybody’s life is precious and must be respected,” the police boss declared.

He however could confirm if the violence was a result of cultism but noted that investigation would reveal the actual cause.
