The relentless surge of violence against women in Nigeria deepens as the Lagos State Police Command announces the shocking arrest of Mr Peter Dike, accused of brutally killing his wife at their home in the Oke-Ira Ilogbo Eremi Community, Marogbo.

The command revealed on Thursday that the suspect allegedly stabbed his wife to death with a kitchen knife during a heated argument that escalated into a violent fight at their apartment on Wednesday.

This tragic incident adds to a growing series of domestic violence cases that have ended in the death of women.

In October 2025, Motunrayo Olaniyi was also arrested for fatally stabbing his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, during a heated argument at the Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, in the Ikorodu area.

Revealing details of Wednesday’s incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that detectives from the Morogbo Division were alerted and promptly arrived at the scene.

Hundeyin stated, “The case is confirmed. After a team of detectives who were on surveillance township monitoring patrol in the area got the information, they moved in swiftly and arrested the suspect. One kitchen knife stained with blood was recovered from him. He was brought down to the station and interrogated accordingly.

“He confessed to the crime. The corpse was deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Badagry. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba.”

TheNigerian Metro reported in January that at least 133 Nigerian women, including teenagers, fell victim to suspected gender-related violence between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024, according to the 2024 DOHS Cares Foundation femicide report.

The data was sourced from the foundation’s tracker dashboard, which monitors cases of femicide.

The foundation is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to combating gender-based violence and documenting incidents of such crimes.
