Police bust factory producing fake alcohol in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have busted a factory producing fake alcoholic drinks in Bomadi, Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State.

The command also arrested a 45-year-old man who allegedly produced fake alcoholic drinks at the makeshift factory.

The suspect, Chiemenam Adigwe, 45, a native of Akpo community in Aguata LGA, Anambra State, mixed ethanol with water, added flavour and then packaged the fake drinks in empty bottles of Gordons, Chelsea, and McDowell’s, which he usually bought from Onitsha, Anambra State.

The suspect also stated that when he supplied drinks to his customers, he usually told them he ordered them from Onitsha.

Adigwe, the suspect, was caught on April 25, 2024, at about 11 am after the command received an intelligence report about a suspect who was producing fake alcoholic drinks in Bomadi.

The Commissioner of Police, Abinanwonda Olufemi, directed the DPO of Bomadi Division to work on the intel and ensure that the suspect was tracked down, arrested and brought to book.

The suspect was subsequently arrested at his hideout with over a hundred bottles of Gordons, Chelsea, Eagle Schnapps and McDowell’s recovered.

Olufemi confirmed this while parading suspects of various crimes in Asaba.

He said: “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect committed the offence. He is in police custody while investigation is ongoing.”
