On Tuesday, the Enugu State Police Command displayed 15 individuals who had been detained between May and June 2023 in various parts of the state for various criminal acts.

The suspects were detained on suspicion of crimes including fraud, conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and murder.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, spoke at the parade and thanked law-abiding citizens for providing the police with crucial information that resulted in the arrests.

Ndukwe stated, “These operational successes reported by the command are a result of the policing plans developed to stop the criminal elements’ activities in the state.

Seven kidnapped victims were also saved as a result of these arrests.

In separate operations carried out by police operatives with assistance from other security agencies and law-abiding individuals, it was reported that “we recovered seven firearms, two vehicles, a motorbike, a dagger, N701,000 in cash and other incriminating exhibits.”

According to him, anti-cultism squad agents raided a hotel (name withheld) on the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Motorway on June 26 at around two in the morning and detained Ali Jubril, 25.

The suspect is reasonably considered to be a kidnapping gang member since he was found with N701,000 in cash that he was unable to account for and one dagger.

The Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Command is conducting further, discrete inquiry into the situation, he added.

In a same vein, he pointed out that on June 25 at 1 pm, police officers working in the Igbo-Eze North Division, with active support from the Forest Guard and Neighbourhood Watch Group, freed four abducted victims.

He claims they were freed following a bloody gun battle with the abductors in a jungle near the Aishi-Ette hamlet in the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area.

In response to a tip, Adani Police Division officers worked together with the Nigerian Army, Forest Guards, and Neighbourhood Watch Group members to rescue a mother and her child on June 25 at 6 o’clock.

The two are allegedly kidnapped near Ngene-Ukwu, which is located along the Adani-Opanda Road. The accused kidnappers are still being sought for by the joint security team.

He added that on June 18, police officers working for the Abakaliki Road Division disrupted a one-chance armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, and fraud gang by acting on reliable intelligence and apprehending several suspects. These and other operational successes were noted.

Ndukwe stated that after investigations into the various incidents were complete, the suspects will be brought before a judge and charged appropriately.

“To that end, Mr. Ahmed Ammani, the state’s commissioner of police, praised police officers and everyone who helped them to carry out these operational exploits.

He continued, “The commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to continue protecting citizen lives and property while also ensuring the state’s overall public security and safety.”
