Police hunt cultists for killing Ogun councillorship candidate

The Ogun State Police Command has said it is hunting the killers of a councillorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state, Adeleke Adeyinka.

Adeyinka, who was contesting the councillorship seat of ward 15 in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state in the forthcoming November 16 LG elections was reportedly shot dead by suspected cultists in the early hours of Saturday.

Sunday PUNCH gathered that the assailants arrived in an unmarked vehicle, shot Adeyinka at close range and later smashed his head with stones till they ensured that he was dead.

Adeyinka, 40, was said to be a transport union worker in Panseke area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Saturday that the police had commenced an investigation into the killing, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Odutola who confirmed that Adeyinka was killed by suspected cultists, said the corpse of the deceased had been released to his family.
