Following receipt of the petition filed on June 27 by the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad regarding allegations of assault, among other things, the Lagos Annex, Force Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigerian Police Force, Zone 2, Alagbon, has disclosed that it invited music promoter Samson Balogun, aka Sam Larry and others.
A lawyer for Sam Larry and the other suspects also filed a counter-petition against Mohbad, citing defamation of character, according to the federal police department, which also highlighted that the singer failed to appear to defend his case.
The late singer Mohbad failed to appear at the police station to adopt and defend his petition and also to provide proof of the allegations, to assist the police in prosecuting the suspects, if necessary, according to Oluniyi Ogundeyi, the Lagos Annex of the FCID spokesperson, who spoke exclusively by phone with our correspondent on Thursday night.
This came after a document came to light in which the late artist accused a music promoter named Samson Balogun, alias Sam Larry, and others of oppression, assault, and other crimes in a petition to the FCID Annex in Alagbon, Lagos State.
In the June 27, 2023 appeal, Mohbad claimed that Sam Larry and 15 other people, who were all armed, attacked the location of a video shoot where the dead and another artist, Omoniyi Temidayo alias Zlatan Ibile, were working and threatened to cause mayhem.
He continued, “They ultimately assaulted Mohbad (after inflicting injuries on him), damaged equipment worth over N5 million at the scene, and then fled the scene.”
“I, of the aforesaid name and address, a law-abiding citizen and musician, draw to your notice the assault and threat to my life by the above-mentioned persons,” the petition stated.
“On June 25, 2023, while I was shooting a video with another artist by the name of Zlatan (Ibile, the aforementioned individuals—numbering around fifteen—led by Sam Larry Elegushi broke into the location with dangerous weapons like guns, cutlasses, and other similar implements. They disrupted the entire shooting process, damaged the equipment I was using for the shooting, which was worth about five million naira, and began threatening my life. They then turned violent and fled
“The aforementioned images are attached to this petition. I paid a total of Eight Million Naira (N8,000,000) for the shooting that they damaged, and this money is non-refundable.
“However, during the attack, they boasted that they work for Oba Elegushi and that they were asked to deal with me for reasons that are best known to them; to this day, they are still threatening to murder me if found. Sir, I kindly want your assistance in saving my life from the aforementioned individuals and bringing them to justice.
The petition partially stated, “Sir, I ask for your good office to spare my life from the above specified individuals and bring them to book.” Thank you for your prompt action.
The police could not act on the petition because Mohbad refused to appear and adopt, defend, and also offer evidence to support the claims he made, according to Oluniyi Ogundeyi, the police public relations officer, FCID Annex, Lagos, who was contacted by our correspondent about the recent development.
We got the petition, followed up on the information in the petition, and the suspects were invited, according to Ogundeyi. Mohbad, however, declined to appear to defend his petition and offer information that would have helped the police conduct a thorough investigation and forward the case to the legal department for possible prosecution, if necessary.
It’s accurate to say that Mohbad reported the incident on June 27, 2023. This was verified to me by the IPO today (Thursday), who also showed me the case file. Sam Larry and other suspects identified in the petition were invited for questioning, and they accepted the invitation and provided statements as well, according to the IPO. The deceased, however, declined to adopt and defend his petition, and a lawyer for Sam Larry and the other suspects filed a counterpetition accusing Mohbad of disparaging Sam Larry and the other suspects.
“The police even attempted to contact Mohbad on numerous occasions, but he never showed up, and there was nothing the police could do if a petitioner refused to defend their petition and provide evidence to aid the police in investigating the matter and forward the case file to the legal department in the event the suspect’s are found to be at fault.”
The Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had earlier stated in a formal statement titled “Mohbad’s Death: We Will Carry Out Diligent Investigation – FPRO,” that the police were committed to a thorough investigation into the matter and that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked with determining the circumstances surrounding his death.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends, and admirers of the late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, well known as Mohbad, who recently passed away,” stated Adejobi. We comprehend the worries over his premature passing.
As the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked with determining the circumstances surrounding his death, “The Nigeria Police Force is dedicated to a thorough investigation into this situation. As investigations progress, updates will be given, so don’t worry.
“We urge family members or close friends who may have important information to get in touch with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to help with this. While the inquiry is still continuing, we politely ask that no one speak out or do anything else that would compromise it. We much appreciate your confidence and assistance.
The PUNCH says that controversial socialite Sam Larry has come under fire on social media as a result of a video that appeared online showing him and several other people harassing late singer Mohbad.
In the video, Mohbad and Zlatan were on the set of a music video when Larry and other boys barged in, targeting Mohbad, who fled in terror. While standing up to Larry and his pals to prevent any attack or bullying on Mohbad, Zlatan attempted to diffuse the situation.
Many Nigerians were incensed by the video and flocked to Larry’s Instagram page to condemn him for intimidating and threatening the late singer. After receiving a barrage of online abuse after the video surfaced, Larry, who is rumored to be Naira Marley’s ally, has since closed his Instagram account.
The PUNCH reported that Mohbad, who was 27 years old, passed away on Tuesday. Additionally, Mohbad’s administration issued a formal statement announcing his demise.
