In Ihite Owerri, in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, have had their camps razed by Imo State Police Command personnel.
According to a statement released by Henry Okoye, the Imo State Police Spokesman, the operation was executed in strong coordination with the military.
After a protracted shootout with the terrorists, a police official reported that one suspect was apprehended and others fled with bullet wounds.
The statement stated that “On August 1, 2023, at approximately 0330hrs, police operatives working in close coordination with the military stormed a suspected terrorist camp at Ihite Owerri, in Orlu LGA of Imo State, and arrested one suspect, while others escaped with gunshot injuries after a protracted gunfight with the terrorists.” This was in response to cases of kidnapping involving Mr. Sabinus Ugwuebu,’m’, a Road Safety Officer, and HRH Eze Ohiri, former Eze Imo, as victims.
“To apprehend the escaping suspects and maybe free the abducted victims, a concentrated investigative effort is underway. After the inquiry is finished, they will be charged in court.
“Imo State Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma promises that the Command will not stop until the kidnapped victims are freed and the perpetrators are brought to justice. The Command will continue to work closely with the Military and other relevant security agencies to stamp out all forms of crime and criminality in the State.”
Danjuma further reiterated the Command’s commitment to cooperating with the military and other security organizations to eradicate violent crimes in the State.
