Police obey court order, suspend tinted glass permit enforcement

The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy following an interim court order restraining the action, pending the determination of a substantive suit.

Recall that the Police had on December 15, 2025, announced plans to resume enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit, with effect from January 2, 2026, as part of measures to enhance public safety and internal security.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, the Force disclosed that it was served with an interim order of court in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on December 17, 2025, which barred it from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the matter or the vacation of the order.

According to the release, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Nigeria Police Force has entered appearance in the suit, raised preliminary objections, and formally applied for the vacation of the interim order.
“The court has adjourned the case to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings,” the statement said.

In compliance with the subsisting court order and in line with constitutional obligations and respect for judicial authority, the Police said enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy has been placed on hold nationwide until the court reaches a decision.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while carrying out its core mandate of protecting lives and property.
The Police assured members of the public that it would continue to rely on lawful, intelligence-driven strategies to tackle security challenges across the country and would issue further guidance as developments unfold following the court’s determination.

The Force urged citizens to remain calm, noting that any updates on the matter would be communicated in the overriding interest of public order and national security.
