A popular Kannywood actress, Saratu Gidado, popularly known as Daso, is dead.
The news of her death was confirmed on Tuesday by a Kano-based private FM radio station, Aminchi Radio.
However, the cause of her death was still unclear at the time of filing this report.
Saratu Daso, before her career in the film industry spanning 18 years, was said to be a school teacher.
She also featured in English films, showcasing her talent across different genres.
As one of the pioneers of the Hausa movie industry, Daso was known for her compelling portrayal of maternal figures on the screen.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary, of Kano State Censorship Board. Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, has expressed grief over her death.
In a statement by the board’s Information Officer, Abdullahi Sulaiman, El-Mustapha described her death as a great loss not only to her immediate family and the Kannywood industry but to the entire Muslim ummah.
He said, “May the Almighty Allah forgive all her shortcomings and Jannat ul Firdaus be her final abode.”
He also prayed to Allah to give her family and the industry the fortitude to bear the loss.
