The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau’s (NSIB) report on the incident at Port Harcourt International Airport involving domestic airline Air Peace is surrounded by controversy. They reported it.
The crew members of the airline were indicted in the report for allegedly testing positive for drugs and alcohol.
The preliminary report of the NSIB about the July 13, 2025, incident involving Air Peace’s Boeing 737 aircraft at Port Harcourt International Airport was just made public.
According to the NSIB investigation, the cabin crew tested positive for THC from cannabis, while the Air Peace captain and first officer tested positive for ethyl, a byproduct of alcohol.
Air Peace, however, disagrees with the NSIB about the contentious conclusions.
Air Peace went on and provided its own version of events, although stating that it has not yet received the report that implicated its crew members.
“The First Officer (co-pilot), who showed professionalism by requesting a go-around from his captain, has been reinstated into active flying duties, with full approval from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA),” the airline said in a statement posted on X on Friday.
Similarly, Victory Maduneme, a member of the Air Peace cabin crew, denied that NSIB tested positive for narcotics and threatened to take her to court.
David Bernard, a co-pilot for Air Peace, added that the captain did not adhere to the proper landing procedure.
“Commander, you are high for this approach; let’s start a go-around,” I told him. Bernard added, “And he didn’t listen to me.”
Alex Badeh, the NSIB’s director general, has, nevertheless, insisted on the conclusions revealed in the contentious report.
