Presidency Responds to El-Rufai Over ‘Tinubu Life Presidency’ Remark

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is mistaken in his claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu intends to become the country’s life president, according to Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s presidential spokeswoman.

El-Rufai was cited as stating that the current administration was already leaning toward authoritarianism and that the president’s Democratic credentials were all “fake.”

After El-Rufai met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the weekend, Onanuga made the assertion. He was cited as stating that there are indications that President Tinubu aspires to become “Paul Biya of Cameroon,” a president who has held office since 1982.

“President Tinubu is a democrat who does not intend to stay in office beyond May 28, 2031, when re-elected in 2027,” responded Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

The former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister has acknowledged the futility of attempts by his associates in his new party to stop President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, Onanuga said, hinting that the leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) might require assistance. He added, “This plot is proving to be unattainable, a mission doomed to fail.”

During his visit to Kaduna State, he said El-Rufai was taken aback by the recent backing for the president, stating, “This stands in stark contrast to his narrative that the region has abandoned the President.”

“Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, seems to need some help, especially given his recent unfounded claims and speculations about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Onanuga said in a post on his social media account.

It is becoming more and more clear that El-Rufai has realized the pointlessness of his new party colleagues’ attempts to stop President Tinubu from being re-elected in 2027. This plot is turning out to be unachievable, a quest that will never succeed.

El-Rufai was obviously taken aback by the extent of the President Tinubu’s continued support in the North following news of the lavish greeting he received in Kaduna last Friday. This contrasts sharply with his claim that the President has been deserted by the region.

He responded by disseminating other ludicrous rumors, such as the idea that President Tinubu plans to become a “life president” after 2027—a ridiculous and untrue rumor.

“When re-elected in 2027, President Tinubu, a Democrat, has no intention of remaining in office past May 28, 2031.

“In order to help El-Rufai avoid his recent hallucinations and political fabrications about Tinubu and 2027, Governor Uba Sani might want to get in touch with his predecessor,” he wrote.
