Rep Supports Creation of Apa State from Benue, Cites End to Marginalisation

House of Representatives member Philip Agbese claims that the establishment of Apa state from Benue will alleviate the “historic marginalization” of the area.

Agbese, who represents the Ado/Ogbadigbo/Okpokwu federal constituency of Benue, also called for the creation of new LGAs in the state in an interview with reporters on Wednesday in Abuja during the House of Representatives’ open week.

He claimed the action will increase economic opportunities, improve service delivery, strengthen accountability and transparency at the local level, and bring governance closer to the people.

The formation of states is one of the suggestions that have been submitted to the national legislature, which is currently revising the 1999 constitution.

According to Agbese, “we can bridge the gap between our people and governance by creating new local governments and Apa state, ensuring that they receive the attention and resources they deserve.”

“There is more effective governance when local administrations are in closer proximity to the people. Government would be more responsive if the people had greater access to their leaders.

“Apa state would spur regional development and progress.” We possess the natural and people resources necessary to realize our greatest potential if Apa State is established.

Our area has historically been overlooked when it comes to the distribution of resources and the advancement of infrastructure.

“With the autonomy and resources that come with statehood, Apa State would give us a platform for accelerated development, enabling us to address our unique opportunities and challenges.”

Agbese noted that although establishing a state has its difficulties, it is possible if there is a strong political desire.

“We are aware of the difficulties in establishing new states and local governments,” he declared.

But with perseverance, hard work, and the people’s support, I think we can overcome these obstacles and create a better future for our area.

To reshape our future and make sure that our constituency receives the resources and attention it deserves, let’s take advantage of this constitutional revision moment.

In order to promote the establishment of Apa state from Benue state, Agbese asked all relevant parties, including traditional institutions and community leaders.
