As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration works to better the country for the sake of its people, Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has maintained that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is still the only practical choice for Nigerians.
The Speaker said these things when a number of members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State officially defected to the APC under the leadership of former National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Director General Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi.
According to reports, the former NEMA DG joined the APC along with hundreds of his fans and a number of former PDP leaders in Kaduna State.
“The former NEMA DG has made a timely and appropriate decision,” Abbas said when welcome Sani Sidi into the APC, stressing that the ruling party is a safe sanctuary for all politicians committed to bettering the lives of their citizens.
As more members of opposition political parties switch to the ruling party, the APC will continue to grow, the Speaker said on Wednesday.
“Today is a happy day for all APC members in Kaduna. It’s the first time in the last two years that I’ve seen opposition members unite in solidarity and support for the APC.
For more than three months, Sani Sidi and I, along with His Excellency Senator Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, discussed ways for him to get off the sinking ship. To get Sani Sidi on board, Governor Uba Sani has worked really hard.

“I want to reassure you that Sani Sidi joined the APC because he saw the progress made by Governor Uba Sani and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Your acceptance of our invitation to join APC makes us delighted.
“You’ve arrived at the ideal location. This is a party of fulfillment and peace. We now consider you to be a part of us. You’re in capable and trustworthy hands. We promise to treat you with the deference and benefits that an APC foundation member is entitled to. Speaking to the defectors, the Speaker stated, “You will not have any reason to regret this decision you took.”
Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State, said in a separate statement at the occasion that Alhaji Sani Sidi was one of the state’s top political figures and that he joined the APC for the advancement of the state, especially his people, rather than for personal gain.
I’m not shocked that he made the proper choice today. He made this choice only out of concern for his people’s advancement, not for selfish ends. He has plenty for himself and is at ease.
We held a number of meetings, consultations, and engagements, as the Speaker mentioned. He focuses on Kaduna State’s development in all of those.
