According to reports, Maxwell Zubu, an inspector with the Rivers State Police Command, shot himself on Tuesday in Port Harcourt’s Eagle Island neighborhood.
Under unspecified circumstances, Zubu, who was working as a security detail for a previous Chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, is reported to have committed himself.
At the time of this report, the reason of his death has not yet been established, and the specifics of the occurrence are still unclear.
The Azikiwe Police Division, which is based in Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt, is in charge of the Eagle Island police post, where the incident was reported right away, according to individuals who talked to Punch.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a police source disclosed that as part of the preliminary inquiry, Azikiwe Police Division officials had visited the spot.
The source claimed that as part of the preliminary inquiry process, a few officers from the Azikiwe Police Division went to the location.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the officer’s death. She cited current investigations as the reason she would not elaborate.
In a conversation with Punch, Iringe-Koko promised that a comprehensive inquiry was being conducted to identify the obvious and hidden reasons behind Zubu’s passing.
“Yes, I can confirm, but we have started an investigation to find out what caused the incident, and we will announce what we find,” she said.
She added that a more thorough investigation of the case has been sent to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt.
