The Humanity Services Project, or HSP, requested the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday to rethink and accept the names of the commissioner-nominees that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had submitted to them.
The Assembly has rejected 17 applicants for commissioner and confirmed 22 of them.
Those rejected include Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Mr Yomi Oluyomi, Mrs Folashade Ambrose, Ms Barakat Bakare, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, Engr. Olalere Odusote, Dr Rotimi Fashola, Mrs Bolaji Dada, Mr Sam Egube, Mr Olalekan Fatodu, Mrs Solape Hammond, Mr Mosopefolu George, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, Mr Seun Osiyemi, Mr Rotimi Ogunwuyi, Dr Olumide Oluyinka.
In its response, the HSP voiced concern that many of those let go were capable individuals who helped the governor succeed during his first term in office, stressing that they must have undergone screening and earned the governor’s trust.
In a statement, the organization’s convener, Mr. Linus Okoroji, claimed that the governor is “in the best position to determine who among those he wishes to return has satisfied him in his first term.”
However, he issued a warning, stating that any attempt to persuade the governor to reconsider would amount to “arm-twisting that may not augur well for the polity.”
In addition, Okoroji encouraged the governor to speak on behalf of the names before the Assembly.
We want to remind the House of the significance of the governor’s promised improved second term, he continued. For him to fulfill his promise as a man who always walks his talk, all hands should be on deck. We implore the legislators to work assiduously to maintain and deepen the executive-legislative synergy for the benefit of the populace.
We therefore issue this warning: “We would not fold our arms and permit anyone to play politics with the fate of the people. If the necessary is not done to the satisfaction of the group and the bulk of the decent people of the state, then a big peaceful protest could not be ruled out.”
