In the Chikakore neighborhood of Kubwa, the biggest suburban town in Abuja, a squad of heavily armed kidnappers reportedly broke into the Grow Homes estate on Monday morning and held residents hostage for almost an hour.

It was recognized that the occurrence happened between 12:00 and 1:30 in the morning.
One of the terrified locals, who claimed to have seen a man and a woman abducted by the kidnappers, said that by dawn the woman was found inside the estate, having been freed by her captors for unknown reasons.

He could not, however, ascertain the precise number of people abducted.

Around 12 a.m., the incident struck. The local vigilance team was overrun by those well-armed men. A ferocious gunfight lasted for around half an hour before the cops arrived at around one in the morning.

For the convenience of security patrol vehicles, we are pleading with the government to repair this road. Additionally, we implore the police and the FCT Administration to assist in setting up a station here for prompt response,” the resident told Vanguard.

The Edo State government has stated that the State House of Assembly and Governor Monday Okpebholo are united in their strong opposition to the growing issue of kidnapping.

This was revealed last Thursday in a statement released by Fred Itua, the governor’s chief press secretary.

The Edo State House of Assembly enacted the Kidnapping Prohibition (Amendment) Law, 2025, according to the government’s statement, “A STEP-BY-STEP BREAKDOWN OF NEW KIDNAPPING PROHIBITION LAW IN EDO STATE.”

By taking such drastic and all-encompassing action, the Edo State government is making it very evident that it would no longer put up with illegal activity that infringes upon the sanctity of human freedom.

Training law enforcement personnel, informing the public on the implications of the amendments, and sensitizing the judiciary will be prioritized as the state carries out the terms of this law. This multifaceted strategy is required to guarantee the law’s efficacy and create a safer Edo State where residents can live in peace, Itua stated.
