The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has come under fire for what is alleged to be an exposé of how senators voted for him.

A sociopolitical activist by the name of Deji Adeyanju stated that Akpabio’s action lacked statesmanship.

According to Adeyanju, Akpabio’s action of disclosing how senators voted has the potential to cause division within the Senate.

In a tweet, the rights activist recalled that in 2015, Bukola Saraki, who had previously served as President of the Senate, tore up the list.

What Senate President Akpabio did to his colleagues by exposing those that voted for or against him publicly is not statesmanlike and will cause division within the Senate, according to Adeyanju.

“He is the first person to ever hold the position of President of the Senate. After receiving the list from the Sergeant at Arms in 2015, Saraki promptly destroyed it by shredding it.

Akpabio was selected by the All Progressives Congress, also known as the APC, to run for the position of president of the Senate.

During the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, which took place on Tuesday, Akpabio was elected to the position of Senate President.

Yari came in second place with 46 votes, while Akpabio came out on top with 63 votes.
