Senator Ningi Questions Service Chiefs’ Ability to End Banditry in Nigeria

Abdul Ningi, a senator from the Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has voiced doubts about the ability of the current Service Chiefs and other security tiers to put a stop to banditry attacks in Nigeria.
According to reports, the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday approved a resolution to organize a two-day security conference where state governors, traditional leaders, security agents, stakeholders, and security specialists will come together to give answers to the difficult problems posed by insecurity.
Ningi expressed alarm to reporters in Abuja over the increasing number of new bandit organizations declaring their existence in some North Central and North West states.

Even though he is close to several of the Service Chiefs and other high-ranking officials in the security community, he said he wasn’t sure if they had what it took to lift Nigeria out of the long-lasting state of insecurity that has plagued the country.
According to the congressman, the appointment of Security Chiefs should be determined by qualifications rather than political affiliations, religion, or tribe in order to reduce insecurity in the country.

He claimed that the best approach to find answers to the nation’s persistent security issues was not through the security summit.

Ningi mentioned those who had previously shown their ability to serve on the advisory board, including Smith, General Victor Malu, General Agwai, and the former Inspector General of Police.

Noting that they both understand the root of the issue, he asked his colleagues to examine themselves and address the threat once and for all.

“I don’t think the current Security Chiefs have what it takes to free the nation from these bandits’ hold,” he stated.

“What a waste of government money—the Super Tucano jets, which cost the nation nearly N1 billion in borrowed funds, have not yet been used.

“Why did you go there to purchase it if you are aware of its limitations? They’re where? Why haven’t they been utilized?
