Seven travellers were killed on Sunday after three vehicles collided at Ulakwo, along the Owerri-Aba Road.

TheNigerian Metro gathered that the passenger buses were heading to Aba from Owerri when the collision took place.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer spokesperson for the Imo State Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the accident, saying their operatives were on the ground to control the flow of traffic.

Okoye said, “Yes, the DPO and his men are already on the ground to ensure order, that corpses are removed and the free flow of traffic. We are on top of the situation.”

It was gathered that following the rains, which started just a little after 5 pm in the state capital, road users scampered to beat the traffic associated with downpours.

An eyewitness who pleaded not to be named told our correspondent that the accident might have been a result of poor visibility during the rains and impatience on the part of the drivers.

He said though the road was wide, it had become slippery due to the rains, adding that the vehicles rammed into each other and left seven persons dead in a pool of their blood.
