As more than 2,000 people used the outreach to access healthcare services, there have been reports of sights being restored.
“After a few years of not being able to see my lovely wife well, I can now see her clearly and see her again. Ademola Alabi Joshua, a beneficiary, declared, “I am really happy,” following eye surgery to remove a cataract.
“My first eye was worked on when I arrived, and I found that I could see quite clearly the second day. I made the decision to have the second eye operated on as well, and today I found that my sight had returned to normal. Thank you very much.
Mrs. Taiwo Onogu, another beneficiary, claimed that she was charged N1.4 million for the eye surgery, which was ultimately performed at the outreach for free.

This was the fourth outreach in Lagos since the launch of the Vision First program in 2022, and it took place in the Mushin Local Council Development Area for five days. The medical team did 245 eye surgeries, including 47 for pterygium and 198 for cataracts, among other procedures. Another 1,992 received laboratory services while the pharmacy dispensed drugs to 1,863 patients. There were around 1,652 general consultations.
According to the most recent milestones, since 2022, the initiative has distributed more than 2,000 pairs of spectacles, performed over 400 eye procedures, and reached over 6,000 people.
“Vision is an important part of life, and we’re pleased at the testimonies from Mushin, which were the same positive feedback from the three earlier sessions,” said Ronald Adams, Managing Director of SNEPCo, in reference to the program’s impact. We will keep carrying out significant social investments, which have been a crucial component of our business since we invented deep-water oil production at Bonga in 2005, with the help of NNPC and our co-venture partners.
In light of the National Eye Health Policy 2019 report that states that blindness in three out of four Nigerians is preventable, the Vision First initiative seeks to prevent avoidable visual impairment through early diagnosis and treatment.
