According to Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Nigeria’s railway infrastructure must be revitalized if it is to maintain its status as Africa’s logistics powerhouse.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, Shettima opened the second international railway conference.
He stressed that taking advantage of the numerous prospects in the railway industry is a significant undertaking and urged players to embrace greater networking, partnerships, and collaboration.
However, the vice president pointed out that President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s railway projects and modernization initiatives were motivated by the need for regeneration.
“The task at hand is to lead this race as Africa’s logistics center by revitalizing and revitalising our railway services, distinguished ladies and gentlemen,” Shettima stated.
“As we get ready to implement modern railway infrastructure, we must be mindful of our role as the economic backbone of West Africa and the location of the continent’s largest population.”
Projects like the modernization of the Kano–Maradi railway, which he referred to as a critical gateway for trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), were sparked by the new impetus, the vice president continued.
