Six killed in Kano January fire incidents

No fewer than six lives were lost, six others were saved in the fire incidents that occurred in January in Kano State.

SFS Kabiru Isah Jaafar, who confirmed the figures on Tuesday on behalf of the state’s Fire Service spokesman, Saminu Yusif, also disclosed that the fire service personnel saved property worth N1,196,950, 600 in the same period under review.

The fire service under the supervision of Alhaji Sani Anas said it received emergency calls from 29 fire stations across the state in January.

According to a statement by the agency, the state fire service received 56 fire calls, comprising 10 rescues and seven false alarms.

“On behalf of the PRO, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the state Fire Service under the leadership of Alhaji Sani Anas, in the month of January 2025, received emergency calls from our 29 fire stations across the state. Also, in the month under review, we received fire calls, rescue calls and false alarms.

“I will use this opportunity to draw the attention of the general public to handle fire with care to avoid fire incidences more especially during this harmattan period.”

He urged all motorists to drive with care, as well as abide by the traffic laws,  especially when travelling on the highways to avoid road accidents.
