Recognizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to reverse years of government neglect in the region, Works Minister David Umahi has called on South-East residents to band together in support of Tinubu.
In addition to his serving as Minister of Works, the Chief of Naval Staff, and the Minister of Science and Technology, the former governor of Ebonyi State praised President Tinubu for selecting people from the South-East region for important government posts.
According to Umahi, these appointments represent important steps in the process of reintegrating the South-East into the national government.
Previously, many Southeast states had no government projects, he noted. The federal presence may be seen throughout the region today. That is the hallmark of genuine national unity.
“This administration is helping us regain the political ground we once lost. Even though it’s not flawless yet, we are no longer behind. We have to accept that and back the president.
Additionally, Umahi urged zone people to embrace positive interaction with the Federal Government and shun divisive speech.
Prior to counting two, the South-East must count one. Reintegration, not isolation, is what we need. “This process has been initiated by President Tinubu; we must not squander the chance,” he said.
He claimed that the President’s return to Aso Rock by 2027 is guaranteed by his achievements in administration and his national integration plan.
The opposition leaders who were calling for a coalition against President Tinubu in 2027 were also criticized by the Minister, who called them unreliable and anonymous.

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and other politicians were reportedly discussing forming a coalition movement to overthrow Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027.
Other leaders of the coalition include Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the APC, and Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Umahi said that Tinubu has shown exceptional leadership for Nigerians and merits a second term during the 2025 Sallah celebration with the Muslim community in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The minister gave President Tinubu credit for fostering what he called a “historic degree” of national cohesion and interfaith peace.
Furthermore, he described the President’s decision to lead a Nigerian delegation to the Vatican for the inauguration of the Pope as a “unique and historic” act that shocked many Christians and marked the beginning of a new era of religious tolerance.
