A tragic accident claimed the life of a young boy on Saturday evening in Obaagun Community, Osun State, when a truck en route to a quarry struck him down as he ran an errand for his father.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the boy, whose father is a well-known baker in the area, had been sent to purchase fuel at a nearby filling station when the incident occurred.

According to a resident who spoke anonymously for security reasons, the boy was nearing the station when the speeding truck hit him, killing him instantly.

“The truck was coming from the Ikirun axis and heading towards a quarry in Obaagun. The boy was on his way to buy fuel for his father when he was hit. The driver attempted to flee, but angry residents pursued and seized him,” the resident said.

The situation escalated as enraged youths nearly lynched the driver before operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) intervened and rescued him.

“The accident occurred on Saturday evening at Marvelous Junction, Obaagun. Aggrieved youths in the community attempted to lynch the driver involved in the incident. However, our officers promptly intervened and prevented the act,” Adeleke said.

She further disclosed that the driver has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police, Ifelodun Division, for investigation, while the boy has been buried.
