The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has described the death of the late Secretary to the Government of the SSG, Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi was a significant loss to the Akure kingdom and the entire state.

Jegede, in a condolence message personally signed in Akure, the state capital, on Sunday, said, “Akure and people of Ondo state have again lost one of their best. An astute politician, a community leader, a public servant of note, a sportsman, and a friend of the underprivileged.”

The former Attorney General of the state said, “Not many people knew that Tuykana was, in his lifetime, a sportsman who represented Ondo state in the game of volleyball. While Tuykana attended the famous Oyemekun grammar school in Akure, it was my singular privilege to attend the famous Aquinas College in Akure.

“We were both members of our respective school volleyball teams. My younger brother Olawale Jegede was at Oyemekun Grammar School, where he played side-by-side with Tuykana. At the same time, I represented Aquinas College during our school days and various sporting events.

“All of us were, at some point in our younger years, members of the Ondo state Volleyball team. Tuykana and I were at the University of Lagos together, where we played side by side on the Unilag volleyball team at the NUGA and WAUG [games].

“You will, therefore, understand my shock and disbelief at the sad news of the tragic and untimely earthly departure of a dear friend and gentleman ‘Tayo Oluwatuyi, a.k.aTuykana.”

The PDP chieftain said, “On Saturday, 4th January 2025, at about 1.20 pm, I received an unexpected call from an elderly friend. It was to convey the tragic and sad news of the demise of a friend, a sports mate, a gentleman, a public servant, and a great politician who had served at various times as Chairman of Akure South Local Government, a Commissioner in Ondo state, and a two-time secretary to the Ondo State Government.

“My heart goes to his wife and the children he left behind. May God give them the necessary strength and courage needed at this period.

“Tuykana’s unexpected and untimely death reminds us again of life’s transient nature and our existence’s futility. God gives, and only Him takes.

“Adieu Tuykana, good night, my dear brother. May God accept your soul and heal the wounds of this tragic loss. Rest in perfect peace, Tuykana. “
