After qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, the Super Eagles of Nigeria may no longer play their scheduled international friendly against Venezuela and Colombia.
According to reports, the team’s 4-0 thumping of the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs on Tuesday night secured their spot in the playoffs.
On November 14, the Super Eagles were supposed to play Venezuela, and four days later, they were supposed to play Colombia in another friendly. However, as Nigeria gets ready for more difficult competition in the playoffs, both games could possibly be canceled.
The most recent schedule indicates that on Thursday, November 13, Éric Chelle’s team will play Gabon in the playoff semi-final. The Super Eagles will play the victor of Cameroon and DR Congo in the championship game if they defeat the Panthers.
To enable the team to concentrate entirely on the playoff campaign, Nigeria Football Federation officials are anticipated to make a formal announcement shortly to confirm whether the friendly will proceed or be canceled.
According to reports, Watford has backed out of negotiations to re-sign Emmanuel Dennis, a forward from Nigeria.
Following his mutually agreed-upon departure from Nottingham Forest in August, the 27-year-old has been without a club. He has been training with Watford in recent weeks, seeking to clinch a contract with the Championship side.
Watford was reportedly prepared to offer Dennis an 18-month contract, but it seems the club has changed their mind.
The Watford Observer claims that when the transfer window reopens in January, the Hornets may decide to change their mind.
After playing for Watford during the 2021–2022 season and then returning on loan in January 2024, Dennis is well-known to Watford supporters.
