A trader, Monsurat Bello, has been hospitalised after a neighbour, Gbenga Soboyejo, allegedly attacked and beat her in the Atoyo area of the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
TheNigerian Metro learnt in an exclusive interview with Bello on Sunday that Soboyejo had attacked her for sitting on his premises to avoid exposure to sunlight.
She narrated that due to the location of her shop, she was often disturbed by the rays of the sun which prompted her to take her chair to the premises of Soboyejo who demanded that she sweep the premises.
Bello noted that following her refusal to sweep the place which she claimed was not littered by her, Soboyejo charged at her and dealt her with several punches to the eyes, nose, stomach and other parts of her body.
The impact of the beating, according to the victim, has left her hospitalised.
Bello narrated, “My shop is located opposite Mr Gbenga’s house and I am often disturbed by the rays of the sun. So, I sat in front of his house because of the sun.
“He came and said that I should sweep the premises where I sat but I refused and he charged at me. He dealt me with blows to my eyes nose and stomach. I have been in the hospital since the incident happened.
“I have run a series of tests and spent a lot of money due to the attack and when the police invited him, he fled from his house with his family. I am urging the police to ensure justice is served.”
When our correspondent reached out to the wife of the accused identified as Mrs Bello, on Sunday, her number was not going through.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, proved abortive as she had yet to respond to enquiries sent to her line by our correspondent.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer in the area privy to the incident but not authorised to speak with the press confirmed the incident to our correspondent stressing that the suspect had since fled.
“The husband reported the matter to the police and we visited the scene but the man has fled with his family. We are on his trail,” the senior officer said.
