Suspected Kidnappers Kill One, Injure Others in Abuja Community

Kpaduma III, a native village in the Asokoro area of Abuja, was attacked on Monday night by gunmen suspected of kidnapping, murdering one of the vigilantes, Bako, and injuring numerous others.

Gunmen broke into homes and engaged local vigilantes in gunfire, causing chaos in what was dubbed one of the most horrifying attacks in the community’s history.
The attack lasted for several hours, according to a source, and throughout that time, gunfire and a grenade-like explosion were commonplace in the neighborhood.

“A lot of people were hurt in the attack and are currently being treated in a hospital,” he said.

He bemoaned the fact that, despite the village’s proximity to the city center, kidnappers could still enter and carry out their heinous act, adding that the arrival of police officers later helped to reduce tension among the locals.

According to FCT Police Command spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the command received a distress call about gunfire along Kobi Village Road in Kpaduma III. Adeh confirmed the event.

She added in a statement that in order to act quickly, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Rapid Response Squad, and Divisional Police Officer, Asokoro Division were all personally led to the scene by Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale.

The attackers used two female victims as human shields to flee after opening fire upon spotting the police team, according to the statement, which also emphasized that the police squad pursued them ferociously and managed to save the two female victims without suffering any injuries.

According to the statement, “Unfortunately, two local security officers from the community vigilante were shot and wounded. They were taken right away to the National Hospital, where a doctor declared one of them dead and stated that the other was still receiving treatment.
