The comments were made in a statement posted on Sowore’s official page.

The proposed wage is below the cost of living in the country and will not be enough for workers with increasing expenses, Sowore argued, the statement said.

“Just hours after we made a proposal for a living wage for Nigerian workers, the governors have responded with their own proposal of a N100,000 minimum wage.

These governors know very well that no worker can survive decently on ₦100,000 per month in Nigeria today. With that amount one can hardly afford a bag of rice, let alone housing, transportation, health care, education, utilities and other basic necessities.

They know what a struggle working people have and yet they pay them poverty wages and live high off the public dole.

The statement said, “A minimum wage should guarantee dignity, not eternal suffering.”
