Benue South is one of the important districts anticipated to generate candidates for the 2027 elections, according to reports that the APC is holding its senatorial primaries across the nation today.

On Saturday night, however, rumors surfaced that Prince Moses Ternenge, a close ally of Governor Hyacinth Alia, had supposedly supported Ottah Agbo as the favored candidate for the Benue South senatorial seat.

After losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket in 2022, Ottah Agbo, a former member of the House of Representatives, joined the APC.

Later, his defection made it possible for Philip Agbese to join the APC before switching to the Labour Party.

In response to the incident, Onjeh criticized Prince Moses Ternenge, a politician from Benue North East Senatorial District (Zone A), for allegedly meddling in the political affairs of Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C) in a video that was uploaded on his Facebook page.

He claims that Benue South has enough competent people to decide its own political course free from foreign interference.

Onjeh stated, “Benue South, Zone C, with its array of professors and academic doctors, cannot be forced to accept a senatorial candidate by Prince Moses Ternenge, a Tiv man from Benue North East, Zone A.”

The APC leader also made fun of an unidentified candidate who was purportedly positioned as the party’s “anointed candidate.”

He charged that the candidate had switched from the PDP to the APC without bringing any grassroots backing or political structure.

The assertion made by certain candidates that they are the chosen candidate is even more absurd. He said, “The person came to the APC with no followers from his previous party, the PDP, and hopes to reap where he did not sow.”

Onjeh went on to say that the race for the Benue South senatorial ticket shouldn’t jeopardize the political networks and supporters that have been established over time.

He continued, saying, “You cannot come and rest on the followership that others have built over the years to run the senatorial race.”

Obande’s decision was disclosed in a statement issued Friday night and it followed extensive consultations, deep personal reflection and prayers, the statement said.

The aspirant said that he had earlier announced in Ogbadibo but later decided not to partake in the primary election on Saturday after further consultations with his associates and family members.

He said the political journey has brought him closer to the people of Enone and further boosted his passion to serve the constituency.

However, he observed that the pursuit of the ambition had taken up valuable time which could have been spent with his family, particularly his wife and children.

He also suggested that the main process seemed to have been completed prior, saying that the outcome was already decided.

Obande insisted he was leaving the contest peacefully and without resentment despite his concerns.

“I am bowing out with my dignity intact because I know I came into this race with sincerity, love and a genuine desire to serve Enone,” he said.

He thanked his supporters, political associates, friends and family members for their encouragement and unwavering support during the campaign period.

The former aspirant pleaded with them to respect his decision, insisting that it was taken in the best interest of his family, personal peace and integrity.

Obande also stressed that his withdrawal from the contest does not mean end of his commitment to the political and developmental future of Enone.

He said he still wants to be actively involved in shaping the leadership path of the constituency in the run-up to the general election.

He said he believes God may be calling him to another path of service for the good of the people.

The statement reads, “My dear and beloved people of Enone, after deep reflection, sincere prayers and wide consultations, I have come to a difficult but clear decision.

“I hereby withdraw unconditionally from the race for the House of Representatives and also declare that I will not be taking part in the party primaries slated for tomorrow.

“I was not even sure of making my declaration in Ogbadibo today, this decision was not yet made, it came after further reflection, prayers and consultations afterwards. This journey has been an emotional and enlightening one, bringing me closer to our people and strengthening my desire to serve.

“However, I have also come to realize that this ambition has taken precious time from me and my precious family, my beloved wife and my lovely children, time I can never recover. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Proverbs 19:21 also says, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”

“Importantly, I must also tell the truth: tomorrow’s primary, as everyone knows, is a foregone conclusion, but I will leave with my head held high, knowing I came with sincerity, love, and real commitment to Enone.

“I do not turn away in bitterness but in wisdom, obedience and to keep my dignity and peace of mind. I thank all my supporters, friends and family for standing by me, believing in me and walking this journey with me.

“I know this decision might come as a shock or disappointment to some of you, but please, trust me, I have made it in my best interest, for my family and for the preservation of my dignity.

I remain committed to the progress, unity and future of Enone and I believe that God is redirecting me to another form of service as a kingmaker who will still help shape the leadership that will represent our people in the general election.

Fr. Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, has successfully scaled the screening process of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the party’s 2027 governorship primaries.

Alia was cleared to join the APC governorship primary after the screening exercise held on Friday at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge, the venue for screening incumbent governors seeking re-election.

The development was contained in a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula.

The screening committee was headed by the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Benue Chapter and the Benue State Motorcycle Association, BEMOA procured the Governor Alia’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

The leaders of the two groups said their decision was based on what they described as the governor’s human-centered leadership style and the “massive turnaround” recorded in the state since he assumed office.

The governor’s clearance was a big boost to his political standing ahead of the 2027 general elections for political observers and stakeholders within the APC.

Governor Alia who assumed office in 2023 on the platform of the APC has continued to emphasize infrastructural development, security, civil service reforms and social welfare as key priorities of his administration.

His successful screening is also seen as the beginning of increased political activities in the APC as the party gears for the next electoral cycle.

Although a high-level peace meeting took place on Sunday, deep divisions remain, especially on the contentious issue of automatic tickets for elected officials ahead of the next election cycle.

The fallout from the 2023 general elections, when both leaders disagreed over control of the party structure and political appointments in the state, led to the crisis between Alia and Akume.

A quiet disagreement quickly erupted into a full-scale intra-party war, dividing the APC in Benue into two rival groups.

One faction, led by Austin Agada, was loyal to Akume while another, led by then-state chairman Ben Omakolo, sided with Governor Alia.

The tension peaked in March 2026 when both factions held parallel congresses, with both factions producing rival sets of party executives.

The faction backed by Alia, meanwhile, said its congress was held according to due process and represented the wishes of party members. But the Akume faction rejected the exercise and held a parallel congress that worsened the leadership crisis.

The APC national leadership eventually took a decisive step, by recognizing the congress conducted by the Alia faction, that produced Ben Omale as chairman. The action effectively sidelined Agada and weakened Akume’s grip on the party structure in the state.

President Bola Tinubu, concerned about the effect of the lingering crisis on the party’s electoral fortunes, intervened, urging both leaders to bury their hatchet and work together ahead of elections.

And Sunday’s meeting was viewed as a step in that direction. But rather than forging unity, it revealed new fault lines.

The renewed tension is based on a proposal made by Akume on the adoption of automatic tickets for Governor Alia and other elected APC officials in the state including members of the National and State Assemblies.

Sources who attended the meeting said Akume had pushed for automatic tickets to ensure continuity and reward loyalty, but the governor had rejected the proposal outright.

Alia reportedly stressed that all aspirants must go through a transparent primary process and warned of possible another internal crisis if candidates were imposed.

“He agreed on other terms but the issue of automatic tickets was outrightly turned down,” an insider said. He is not prepared to risk the party’s structure. “He also does not want a situation where Akume loyalists in the National Assembly come back unchallenged.”

Governor Alia, who addressed journalists following the meeting, was very clear in his stance that there are no automatic tickets.

He said: “Because the APC has made it very clear, Mr. President has said it severally and the National Chairman of the APC also stressed at the time that there is no automatic ticket.

“I think this is just a request, not a resolution. It is a prayer for the people of the state, asking them to reflect and consider how they can assist those who are serving.
It is not an official position of the national party or the federal government. As I understand it, this was a conciliation meeting. He has a right to make such appeals, to offer prayers. It’s basically a call to the whole citizenry to see if they can bring these people back. “I would say that is a misguided approach,” he said.

With preparations for the 2027 election cycle starting to gain momentum, the party may be headed for another bout of internal strife with conflicting interests, old grievances and the struggle for control still simmering beneath the surface.

Philip Agbese, who represents the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has been proclaimed the unchallenged leader of the Labour Party (LP) in Benue State.

The Labour Party in Benue State welcomed Agbese’s recent defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and positioned him as the natural leader due to his status as the highest elected political office holder from the state under the LP banner, according to a statement signed by Comr. Aluh Moses Odeh, Director of Media and Public Affairs.

The statement said, “Rep. Agbese, being the highest political office holder, becomes the leader of the party in the state by party convention and rules all over the world.”

The Benue LP disassociated itself from any groups attempting to undermine the party, whether they were genuine, fraudulent, or purportedly supported by outside forces.

The party stated that it had reached its lowest point following the general elections of 2023, with many members quitting because the national leadership at the time did not support them.

According to Odeh, talks were later started with Hon. Philip Agbese, who was thought to have the charm and ability to bring the party back before 2027.

Thus, Agbese’s arrival was hailed by the Benue Labour Party as a significant boost that has drawn new members and serious candidates for the 2027 elections.

According to Odeh, the party is currently in a strong position to take on the ruling APC and pull off a significant surprise in Benue.

The statement went on to say, “Anyone claiming leadership of the LP in Benue State other than Hon. Philip Agbese is acting in defiance of the Supreme Court judgment affirming Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as National Chairman.”

“The Benue State Labour Party immediately benefited as soon as Hon. We welcomed Philip Agbese. His arrival provided us the motivation and assurance that, God willing, our party is ready to pull off a huge surprise in 2027.

“There is no dispute: Hon. Philip Agbese is our party’s leader in Benue State. In violation of the Supreme Court’s ruling, those who propagate lies to the contrary are just doing so to stroke their egos.

The Benue LP described Senator Esther Nenadi Usman’s rise as the result of the party’s common will and vowed complete commitment and allegiance to her national leadership.

“Hon. Agbese promises to change the party’s fortunes with his unique blend of experience, intelligence, and grassroots appeal.”

He is now the focal point for all progressive forces looking for real change in the state because of his smooth integration, which has raised spirits and created prospects for new partnerships.

“Senator Usman’s unwavering dedication to party unity and constitutional order continues to inspire confidence throughout the Labour Party structure.”

“The Benue chapter, which sees her as the true anchor capable of guiding the party towards victory and sustained growth in the years ahead, has shown her great respect and complete allegiance due to her visionary leadership at the national level.”

Aondoakaa reportedly said this during an interview on Arise Television’s “Morning Show” on Wednesday.

Aondoakaa emphasized that his desire to better Benue is the driving force behind his defection to the PDP, which he called a “homecoming.”

He further explained his objective by saying that he wanted to use the extra money from President Tinubu’s reforms to enhance rural regions, supply food and shelter, and make sure Benue State achieved all 17 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The former AGF said that he would accomplish this by upholding all state laws, notably the anti-grazing statute.

“My decision to join the PDP has nothing to do with Governor Alia SGF Akume,” he declared. During the PDP administration, I served as Attorney General. It feels like I’m returning home to pursue my own goals and aspirations after being promoted to Attorney General and Minister of Justice.

“I want to implement my programs in a different manner. My approach is to ensure that the funds coming into the state are used to help rural communities.

It is not a leadership that thrives on noise, deception, or distant promises. It is a movement grounded in results, in love for the people, and in a rare humility embodied by one man — Hon. Chief Dr. Philip Agbese, fondly revered as the Enone Servant.

From Ado to Okpokwu, and through Ogbadibo, the air now carries a renewed sense of hope. It is the kind of hope that springs not from slogans, but from service. Farmers who once battled with the rising costs of inputs now smile again, as the Enone Servant has restored dignity to their sweat and meaning to their work. When he distributed fertilizers across communities, it was not a political stunt — it was a covenant of trust. Every bag handed out carried a message: “I see you. I value you. I will stand with you.”

When Hon. Agbese chose to be called “The Enone Servant,” it was more than a title — it was a declaration of intent. Unlike others who seek to rule, he chose to serve. Unlike those who distance themselves from the people after elections, he rolled up his sleeves, walked the dusty roads, and worked hand-in-hand with those who gave him their mandate. He proved that true leadership is not about occupying an office — it’s about occupying hearts.

Every act of service under his leadership has rippled through the lives of ordinary people. It is in the radiant smile of Mrs. Grace Onoja, who now provides for her children with pride. It is in the renewed spirit of Mr. Okibe Onmejeh, whose heritage as a farmer is now respected and supported. It is in every youth who has found empowerment and every woman who now has a voice in the economic space.

This is not politics as usual — it is transformation. Hon. Agbese’s impact cuts across every sector:

Education is improving, with schools revived and children returning to classrooms.

Healthcare is becoming more accessible, as communities witness real investments in their well-being.

Infrastructure is growing, bringing connectivity, commerce, and comfort to once-forgotten areas.

Empowerment programs for youths and women have turned dependency into productivity.

As the calendar moves closer to 2027, one truth is becoming undeniable — the people of Enone know their servant, and they trust him. His re-election is not being campaigned for in the usual way; it is being earned daily through service, compassion, and transparency. Every family that has benefited from his leadership has become his campaign team. Every improved life has become a billboard of his legacy.

How does one compete with sincerity? How can one contest against credibility? Hon. Agbese’s name is not just on posters — it is engraved in the hearts of his people. He is not just a politician; he is a promise keeper, a bridge builder, and a man whose loyalty to his people has never wavered.

In 2027, the people of Enone will not simply be casting votes — they will be reaffirming faith. They will be safeguarding their future and ensuring that the Harvest of Hope continues to bloom.

Hon. Philip Agbese’s coming victory is not just predicted — it is assured. It will not be powered by political godfathers, but by the gratitude of a people he has uplifted. It will not be decided in the halls of elites, but in the farmlands, schools, and homes where his impact has become life itself.

In Benue’s fertile soil, one name stands as a testament to what true service can achieve — Agbese.
He came as a servant, he leads as a servant, and he will triumph again as a servant. For in Enone, the voice of the people has spoken — and that voice says, “Continue, our Servant.”

In a heartwarming display of community solidarity and appreciation, the Ikpilogwu Youth’s Development Association (IYDA) paid a congratulatory visit to the hometown of esteemed lawmaker, Representative Philip Agbese, yesterday. The visit was aimed at celebrating his outstanding accomplishments and acknowledging his steadfast commitment to the development of Ikpilogwu youths and the broader Apa-Agila community.

Held at the family residence of Rep. Agbese Philip, the gathering drew enthusiastic participation from members of IYDA, community leaders, and well-wishers from across the constituency. The event was marked by an atmosphere of unity, excitement, and pride, as attendees came together to honour the representative’s impactful contributions.

In his speech, the President of IYDA, Mr. Sunday Odang (popularly known as Biology), commended Rep. Agbese for his visionary leadership and efforts in addressing the developmental needs of his people. “Your dedication to our community has not gone unnoticed. Your leadership inspires us to strive for greatness and work together for a better future,” he remarked.

In response, Rep. Agbese Philip expressed profound gratitude for the visit, describing it as both humbling and inspiring. “I am deeply honored by your presence,” he said. “It is your energy, passion, and involvement that truly make a difference. Together, we can continue to build a brighter future for Ikpilogwu and ensure that our voices are heard.”

The visit also created a valuable platform for dialogue, as the youths engaged the lawmaker on critical issues such as education, job creation, and community development projects. Rep. Agbese assured them that their concerns would shape his ongoing legislative agenda and reiterated his commitment to inclusive and responsive governance.

This symbolic visit by IYDA not only reaffirmed community trust in Rep. Agbese’s leadership but also underscored the growing spirit of youth involvement in shaping the future of Apa-Agila.

So it’s better to manage mine and deliver what belongs to the people.”
He emphasized that true leadership lies in accountability and prioritizing the needs of constituents.

Community Engagement and Post-Inauguration Plans

Ogbu assured the Izzi community that after his official swearing-in, he would commence consultations to understand and address pressing issues.
“Whatever brings you pain, we will tackle it. We are here to wipe away your tears,” he declared.

Hon. Alegwu Adadu also spoke, commending Hon.
